Hypnotism Stop Smoking: Hypnosis as a Tool to Stop Addictions

“It’s all in the mind,” as they say. This is what you most probably think of when facing fear or pain. This holds true when you think of hypnosis as a means of stopping bad habits such as alcoholism, drug addiction or simply, smoking. But willpower is merely not enough in putting a stop on these habits. This is where hypnosis can be of big help.

As a start, it would be best if one will be able to determine the causes of the addiction or bad habit – stress, boredom, nervousness, traumatic experiences, or problems. It’s a stepping stone to accept that a person indeed has a bad habit and is willing to undergo treatment to banish this habit.

Since the 18th century, hypnosis has been identified. A few known uses of hypnosis back then were as a replacement for anesthesia and as a treatment for hysterics among others. But for modern day medicine, does hypnosis really work?

Hypnosis alters the ideas, feelings and emotions already embedded in our subconscious mind. Our subconscious mind is responsible for what we automatically do (such as breathing) or things that are already innate in our system once we get a hold or get used to it (such as driving a motorcycle or a car). It is in the subconscious mind where a lot of thinking and absorbing of new information or ideas takes place, which enable our conscious mind to decide what we will do and put these decisions or ideas into action. It is only in sleep where our subconscious mind becomes more active than our conscious mind, thus an opportunity for new ideas, feelings, or information to be introduced into it.
